Hey there Guitar Maniacs, at least that's
what Marc calls you. Susan Moore here to get you up to
speed. I had the pleasure of speaking with Marc recently and since he
has the big 'Honor Our Troops' Concert coming up, I thought I'd post the
relevant part of our conversation for you all to enjoy. Here it
is:
Excerpt from an interview of Marc
Seal by Susan Moore
Susan : Marc, a lot of
letters are coming in asking about your "HONOR OUR TROOPS" concert. Are
you making a political statement?
Marc : No, to the
contrary. In fact, I do my best not to express my personal beliefs or
political views as I know that my point of view is just that, my point
of view. I try to keep that private.
Susan : Is
the "HONOR OUR TROOPS" concert a political statement?
Marc : Not at all.
"Honor our troops" is something everyone should do. I never publicly
support a political idea or candidate as I know I will immediately
alienate myself from at least 50% of the people out there, but those men
and women in uniform are fighting for every ideal we have always held dear, no
matter your political point of view and they aren't just talking, they are
putting their lives on the line.
Susan : How do you
respond to entertainers that support political parties or
candidates?
Marc : Well it seems to
come from all genre's of the entertainment industry including musicians, actors,
and comedians. I think all of these talkers have lost their way. Who hired
us to talk politics? I know my place. When I go on stage or on a
television program I know I am there to entertain people and I want them to
have a great time. The only influence I want to have on my audiences mind
is when I am teaching them music.
Susan : So is it fair to
say that you feel things have gotten out of hand with respect to celebrity
politics?
Marc : I think the term
"celebrity politics" is an oxymoron. The two words just don't
mesh. I say rather than trying to be all political, play your guitar,
sing, tell your jokes, or act, that's what your there for. Otherwise run
for office.
Susan : I have reviewed
hundreds of letters and recently, many of them seek your point of view
about the politics of the day. What would you like to say in response to
them.
Marc : I simply
say, "get informed and vote or don't whine about the
outcome." (if you vote and your candidate loses, don't whine
about it on my message board, LOL)
